我們自己若不先有損失，就不能有益於人。
燃燒好似人生中的痛苦。信徒必須經過痛苦，…
可是我們見了痛苦，卻常喜歡逃避。
我們常想：…當我們孤單、害病、受痛、失業的時候，
是沒有什麼用處的 ── 是不能被神重用的。
可是，我們若能忍耐、降服…在痛苦中，
必有更大、更有用的事奉，遠超過我們自己所想的。…
明天的榮耀，是因今天的痛苦。
許多人只要榮耀，不要十架；…但是我告訴你：
十架是冠冕的先鋒，沒有十架就沒有冠冕。』
